With the Republican convention set to focus on foreign policy Wednesday, former National Security Council official Richard Goldberg argues that Donald Trump and GOPers have a "very different vision" than President Biden for handling world affairs — one that could benefit Israel and the entire Middle East. "Trump left the White House exerting maximum pressure on Iran and extending maximum support to Israel, a strategy that yielded historic peace agreements," notes Goldberg. "Biden's record is one of maximum deference to Iran and pressure on Israel — a strategy that led to the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, a seven-front war against Israel and nonstop attacks on Red Sea commerce. The world's leading state sponsor of terrorism is now on the one-yard line of the nuclear-weapons threshold." Biden also promised unwavering support for Israel after Hamas' Oct. 7 horror show, but since then his actions have at times impeded the Jewish state's bid to defeat Hamas and deter Iran. If Trump is elected and backs Israel as he did during his first term, it could dramatically change the dynamics in the Middle East, benefiting not just Israel but Arab nations as well. Read more |

It's not just educators and administrators at colleges and K-12 schools who've displayed their blatant antisemitism since Oct. 7, but also teachers — or at least their unions. Monday, the nation's second-largest teachers union, the American Federation of Teachers, will vote on several antisemitic resolutions that call for a halt to US military aid to Israel and a cease-fire that lets Hamas terrorists who launched the Oct. 7 massacre survive. They also call for defending anti-Israel protesters on US campuses, despite their hostility toward Jews. Three local unions affiliated with AFT have already passed bills smearing Israel as an apartheid state and supporting the BDS movement. The National Education Association took up a similar agenda this month, though it rejected at least parts of it. These unions represent teachers who are supposed to know facts as well as right from wrong. Yet their antisemitic stands on Israel and Jews suggest ignorance on both scores. Joe Biden is managing to do what no recent president has done before. He's gotten Jews to reconsider their overwhelming, longtime allegiance to Democrats and to back the Republican candidate for president, Donald Trump. The trend, as I argue in The Post, began well before the entire nation started to question Biden's fitness for office following his disastrous debate performance. Indeed, Siena polls this year have shown Jewish support for Biden in New York have fallen into the 40% and 50% range, a shocking drop from the usual 70% Jews give Dem wannabes. And though their share of the population is small, the shift could make the difference in close races in swing states (as Commentary's John Podhoretz notes). There's no mystery here, of course. Since Oct. 7, antisemitism in America has surged, with Biden doing little to counter it. Instead, he's claimed antisemitic, anti-Israel protesters "have a point." Jews now question America's decades-long role as a safe haven. On top of that, Biden's hostility toward Israel, even as it fights for its very survival, has shaken Jews' faith that the United States will continue backing the Jewish state going forward. The November election should provide a measure of the cost Jews will make Democrats pay for all that. Read more |
