Prince William promises to “take care” of Kate

The Prince of Wales was back in action on Thursday, carrying out his first public engagements since his wife, Catherine, revealed her cancer diagnosis last month.

William, 41, visited a surplus food charity in Surrey before he headed to a youth center in west London.

The Princess of Wales, who has not carried out any official duties since Christmas Day, announced in a powerful video on March 22 that her diagnosis had been a "huge shock" and she had already started chemotherapy. Kate's cancer was found in tests following an abdominal surgery in January.

The revelation followed weeks of speculation over her whereabouts and bizarre conspiracy theories circulating online.

William started his engagements on Thursday by visiting Surplus to Supper, a food redistribution organization where he met with volunteers and helped load vans with food to dispense to local groups.

He also chatted with chefs about how they are addressing both food waste and food poverty while donning an apron and pitching in with the preparation of meals.

While in the kitchen, one volunteer gave the prince several get well cards for his wife and father, King Charles III, who also revealed in February that he was getting treatment for an unspecified form of cancer.

The prince appeared touched by the gesture from volunteer Rachel Candappa. According to Britain's PA Media News media agency, she told the future king to "take care of" Kate, to which William replied: "I will."

William then jumped into one of the vans and joined volunteers as they drove to Hanworth Centre Hub, a youth center that benefits from Surplus to Supper's work.

Kensington Palace said his visits aimed "to spotlight the community and environmental impact organisations in the area are having through their work."

The palace added: "Reducing food waste has a considerable number of environmental benefits, including reducing emissions from landfill that contribute to climate change."

The prince's last official engagement was on March 19 when he visited the English city of Sheffield for his Homewards homelessness project. However, he and his eldest son delighted soccer fans when they were spotted at an Aston Villa game in Birmingham last week.

Prince Harry loses initial bid to challenge decision in security legal case.

The Duke of Sussex suffered a blow in his ongoing battle over his personal security when visiting the United Kingdom after a High Court judge this week denied his request to appeal the decision. In February 2020, the Home Office said that Harry would no longer be given the "same degree" of taxpayer-funded protection when he returns home, after he stepped down as a senior royal along with his wife, Meghan. The duke took legal action against the British government for this decision, with his lawyers saying that he had been "singled out," but he lost his court challenge earlier this year. Despite Monday's ruling, the duke will still be able to ask the Court of Appeal directly for permission to appeal.

More Netflix shows are on the way from the Sussexes.

The streaming giant recently confirmed to CNN that the couple's Archewell Productions has two new nonfiction series in production at Netflix as part of a multi-year deal signed in 2020. The news was first reported by Deadline. The first series will be curated by Meghan and "will celebrate the joys of cooking and gardening, entertaining, and friendship," according to Netflix. The second new series is shot mostly at the US Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida and "will provide viewers unprecedented access to the world of professional polo," Netflix says. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has unveiled the first product from her new lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard, sending jars of strawberry jam to influencers and friends. Several people posted about the jam to social media this week, including fashion designer Tracy Robbins and Argentinian socialite Delfina Blaquier.

Robbins uploaded two images of the jam to her Instagram Story on Monday. "Thank you for the delicious basket! I absolutely love this jam so not sure I'm sharing with anyone. @American RivieraOrchard Thank you M," read the caption on the first image. Check out more on the story here.

The monarch shared his shock at the attack in Sydney last weekend, saying his heart went "out to the families and loved ones of those who have been so brutally killed." His message came shortly after William and Kate released their own, in which they said they were "saddened by the terrible events" and thinking of all those affected as well as "the heroic emergency responders who risked their own lives to save others."
